TITANES

Jonah Blair
Occupation : Executive Officer, Sierra Unit
Employer : Titanes Security
Brief History : Joined the Army at a young age. Started out a Ranger, but soon became a Green Beret. Later accepted into Delta Force. Fought in almost every conflict with American involvement. Headhunted by Titanes Security through his wife, Michelle Blair. Initially rejected the offer, but accepted their second one. Retired from the Army at the age of 39, and the rank of Sergeant Major. In Titanes, he led PMC operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, till the formation of the Titanes Special Unit, of which he put in charge of. During WW3, the unit was the first PMC unit to fight in India, and subsequently in Eastern Europe. Later, against Jonah's wishes, they were recalled, and assigned to protect Titanes interests in Tierra. Safe from the destruction occurring in the rest of the world, Jonah would then reform the unit into the Sierra Unit, which he would personally train into one of the most formidable units of Operators in the Conglomerate.

CERBERUS

Steve 'Chance' Ferrer
Occupation : Chief Executive Officer
Employer : Cerberus Inc.
Brief History : Previously a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps. Served as XO of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit during WW3. The 13th MEU was involved in the some of the heaviest fighting in the American theater. They were redeployed to Midway as part of the American counter-offensive plan, which would later be canceled at the start of the nuclear offensive. They would remain at Midway for the duration of the war, and beyond. When they eventually returned to the mainland, the devastation shocked them. Unsure of what to do, they remained at their landing point, and established a temporary base. News of their arrival then reached the Conglomerate, who immediately dispatched envoys to contact them. They would update the Marines on the situation, and then make them an offer; to join the Conglomerate as their own independent PMC. The commander, Colonel Robert Madison, refused the offer, much to the disapproval of his subordinates, especially Lt. Col. Steve. This would result in a coup, leading to the assassination of Colonel Madison. Steve, now in control, then accepted the Conglomerate offer, leading to the formation of Cerberus Inc.

INQ - People 01a - Leading Board of Directors

The Conglomerate is presided over by a Leading Board of Directors, consisting of the directors of the 10 leading companies in the Conglomerate. The Board is reformed every term, which consists of 2 years. During each reform, a neutral party will determine each company's value over the course of the previous term. The top 10 company directors will then receive invitations for a chair on the Board (the invitation my be rejected at the discretion of the director). When the Board is formed, an election takes place to determine the Chairman.

INQ - Factions 03a, Institutions

Due to the wide and varied fields of scientific research done within the Echelon, a system of Institutions was set up to allow easy management of resources. Each Institution governs it's own field of science, and is led by an Overseer. The Overseers of every Institution form the Council.

Listed below are some of the Institutions.

Institution of Engineering
Overseer : Walter Schmidt
The largest Institution, their main contribution comes from their bio-engineering research, specifically the breakthroughs in cybernetic organisms, or cyborgs. Cyborgs form a large component of the Echelon's fighting strength.

Institution of Computer Sciences
Overseer : Zhang Lin
Their highly advanced Robotics provide the Echelon with all the assisted manpower it requires. A wide variety of combat models form an able complement to their armada.

Institution of Psychology
Overseer : Stefan Oslowieck
Leaders in Psychic research. Three different departments exist for it; Kinesis, Stasis, and Genesis. They often conduct experiments on live subjects captured from the wastelands.

Institution of Chemistry
Overseer: Carl Alder
Unrestrained research into the effects of chemicals has led them to create many volatile compounds. Bio-weapons, enhancement drugs, and even substances that cause severe mutations form just some of their bizarre repertoire.

INQ - Factions 03, The Echelon

Of the 3 major factions in Inquisition, the Echelon is considered the 'youngest'. Their rapid rise to power in the post-apocalyptic landscape is mainly the result of the immense technological advantage they hold over their rivals.

THE ECHELON

As the Nuclear winter raged on, all went well in the Midian fortress as they prepared themselves for the task ahead. But cracks soon began to show in their solidarity, as old grudges began to take form. It was a highly popular Midian belief, although seldom mentioned, that one of the greatest reasons for the downfall of Humans was their over-reliance on science. Midians looked upon science with distrust, and for House Ferdinand, all they could do was to ignore their sentiments.

However, a rumor soon began to spread amongst the Midian populace. The origins of the rumor were unknown, but there are some within the higher circles of authority who believe that it started from some officials in House Friedrich. The rumor was regarding the Inquisition virus, the deadly bio-weapon that spread like wildfire worldwide during those turbulent years. During the years of World War 3, a Midian investigative team had been working to discover the origins of Inquisition. They focused their efforts in Africa, that being where the Inquisition virus was first discovered. After months of investigative worked, they were led to a hidden facility deep in the jungles of central Africa, where they would discover a shocking truth.

The deserted laboratory was indeed where the virus was created. The small, but highly advanced facility had all the equipment necessary to manufacture the bio-weapon. Chemical testing also found traces of the virus all over the area, and large amounts of inquillite ore were discovered locked within a store room. Although the team initially presumed that the laboratory was abandoned, the discovery of several corpses within a safe room changed their conclusions. It seemed that an accident had led to an outbreak of the virus within the facility, during which a lockdown was engaged, and the occupants evacuated to the safe room. However, through some unknown factor, the virus managed to slip into the safe room, killing all within it. Evidence found however, did not indicate that the virus leaked out of the facility, as the lockdown was still in place when the team arrived, and the seals were found to be working perfectly. Hacking into the database also failed to produce any information regarding the origin of funding of the operation. The only clue they had left were the corpses in the safe room.

Using the facility to aid them, they identified all the corpses. All of them were prominent scientists, mostly specializing in the fields of bio-chemical engineering, and they came from varied nationalities. They could find no evidence linking the operation to any nation or group. But there was one more detail uncovered. The scientists were all Midians.

The rumor that Midian scientists were the ones who created the virus spread like wildfire amongst the populace, and soon, House Ferdinand found themselves unable to ignore it any longer. They protested against the claims, saying that no proof existed that showed the rumor to be true. Their protests fell on deaf ears, and the people demanded answers. The Head of House Ferdinand, Kurt Strauss, convened an emergency meeting of the Heads to settle the situation.

What occurred during this meeting has been considered highly confidential, and no details on it have ever been revealed. All that is known is that after the meeting, Head Ferdinand was seen to stagger out of the council room, an intense look of shock in his face. Immediately following, House Ferdinand then shut themselves in for one week, during which little activity was seen to happen within the House. After that, the officials of House Ferdinand, led by Kurt Strauss, called for a gathering in the great hall. There they would announce their self-imposed exile.

The exodus into the wastelands was highly treacherous, and many of them would not make it. They searched for a new home, with little luck, as all they found was devastation and more wasteland. That luck was to change, as on the 28th day of their exodus, they would chance upon an unoccupied bunker. Originally a military installation, it was outfitted with all the necessary requirements for a large number of people to dwell in. Overjoyed at their find, they moved into their new home, Bunker 64.

Once they had settled in, they then began exploring the surrounding landscapes. Some distance from Bunker 64 lay a ruined city, and after some exploration, they made an interesting discovery. Hiding in the basement of the city hall was a group of survivors. Among these survivors were several government officials, who before the nuclear winter, had been on their way to Tierra. They had much knowledge of the surrounding area, but the greatest information they yielded was the location of a government research facility, hidden in the mountains. Having gotten all the information they needed, they saw no need in bringing the survivors back to their Bunker, where they would just be more mouths to feed. The survivors were then killed in cold blood. After that, they sent out an expedition to survery the condition of the hidden facility. When they got there, they found that the facility was still inhabited, the researchers there having shut themselves in during the nuclear winter. Although distrustful at first, the researchers soon began to warm up to the Midian scientists, and they agreed to join them.

Over the next few months, they would consolidate their power. They established themselves as the Echelon, promoting their belief of 'Free Science', or rather, science without boundaries.

INQ - Factions 02a - Midian Military Structure

The armed forces of the Midians are organized into distinct formations that follow their basic familial structure. It comprises mostly of specialists, each highly trained and talented within their specific skill sets, but otherwise lacking in others. There are numerous specialist corps, each refered to as an Arm. Soldiers from each arm are then organized into battle groups, or Kampfgruppen.

ARMS

Due to their unique genetic evolution, Midians possess unique abilities beyond that of humans. The abilities differ among Midians of different bloodlines; those that share a common bloodline tend to have similar abilities. As such, each Arm in the Midian forces consists mainly of Midians from the same bloodline.

Some of the Arms that exist in the Midian Armed Forces are:

Gespenst (Wraiths) - Agile, dextrous hunters that wield only throwing weapons and trained in hand to hand combat.
Luftjagers (Airborne Hunters) - Versatile airborne soldiers equipped with jetpacks.
Sturmtruppen (Storm Troopers) - Shock troops. Their superhuman strength allows them to easily wield heavy weapons and melee weapons.
Gerbirgsjager (Mountain Huntsmen) - Mountaineers who are able to negotiate and fight in any terrain.
Pioniere (Pioneer) - Combat engineers. Valuable support units.
Zauberer (Illusionist) - Psychic soldiers that use illusions and mind tricks to deceive the enemy.

Most Midian youths begin their service in more basic roles:

Grenadier - Assault Infantry.
Jager - Light Infantry.
Psychisch - Psychihc warfare troops.

Youth soldiers begin their service in the basic Arms. Youth soldiers are organized to squads typically ranging from 4-7 people, each led and taught by a squad leader, a senior Midian of age 20-30. Squads rotate annually, allowing youths to meet other youths of their bloodline, in turn allowing them to mature through their relationships. Squad leaders determine when a youth has reached a skill and maturity level where they will be fit to train in a specialist role. The youth will be counseled by his Squad Leader on which specialist Arm he is suitable for, but the decision lies with the youth himself.

At this point, the youth is no longer considered a youth, and is henceforth referred to as an adult. After making his decision, the youth is then transferred to his new Arm. Progression in the Arm is determined by several factors, namely leadership, skill level, and maturity.

Gefreiter - The first rank attained upon joining the Arm.
Unteroffizier - Normally reached after a year in the Arm.
Feldwebel - Squad leader or vice Squad leader.
Hauptfeldwebel - Platoon leader or vice Company leader.
Stabsfeldwebel - Vice Company leader or Company leader
Leutnant - Company leader.
Hauptmann - Battalion leader. The last rank whereby a Midian remains in combat service.

KAMPFGRUPPEN AND THE 5 ARMY GROUPS

Arms are separated into battalions. Battalions from every Arm are then organized by higher command into a combined Arms division known as a Kampfgruppe. Although Kampfgruppe vary in size, it is generally the 2nd largest formation in the Midian armed forces. Kampfgruppen are assigned by their region to the 5 Army groups (North, South, East, West, Central)

Major - Staff command position in a Kampfgruppe.
Oberst - Staff command position in a Kampfgruppe or vice Kampfgruppe leader.
General - Kampfgruppe leader.
Feldmarschall - Army group leader.

INQ - Factions 02, The Midians

During World War 2, Hitler ordered the commencement of Nazi eugenic programmes. These racially-based social policies seeked improvement of race through eugenics and the elimination of those defined 'unworthy of life'. Thousands were killed as a result of these purges.

THE MIDIANS

Midian Officers - Concept Illustration

Amidst these, a top secret Nazi programme was carried out, known only to Hitler and several of his closest aides. Highly classified research from Ahnenerbe, a Nazi think tank, had managed to trace the bloodlines of several Aryan families to within Germany and Austria. This was immediately made known to Hitler, who then ordered his personal SS guard, the LSSAH (Liebstandarte SS Adolf Hitler) to find these individuals. They were then to be relocated to a remote self-sufficient village hidden in the mountains of Austria, and await further orders. Those who refused to comply were threatened with force, but strict orders for the LSSAH prevented them from use of lethal force. All 106 individuals were rounded up and relocated to the remote village, after which Hitler ordered a brigade of the LSSAH to protect the village, and maintain it's secrecy. As the war took a turn for the worse, Hitler was forced to withdraw the brigade in support of his offensives, leaving behind a platoon to continue the task of protection and secrecy.

Hitler believed that only the 'pure' should be allowed to rule. He desired to create a master race of people with Aryan origins, to take over his reich when he should die.

The war ultimatelly ended in Germany's defeat, however, and Hitler committed suicide inside his bunker. The Allies swept across Germany, signalling the fall of Nazism. Deep in the mountains, the remote village recieved no news of her nation's defeat, with their communications severed by intense Allied bombing campaigns. Their first clue came when a child spotted a plane flying overhead, which the LSSAH later identified as an Allied scout plane. For Allied aircraft to fly so deep into their territory, the LSSAH platoon knew something was wrong. Scouts were sent out to the nearest towns to seek out information possible. Only one of the scouts returned, and he bore with him news of their defeat, and of the impending Allied sweeps into their area. The LSSAH immediately informed the Aryans to pack up as much as possible, and to be ready to move as soon as possible. The LSSAH sent out a small advance force, to ensure the safety of the area, and also to locate a local SS agent, who would link them to the ODESSA network. ODESSA would then be able to extract them to a safe region, where they could continue protecting Hitler's ideals.

The LSSAH and the Aryans managed to leave the village, and make significant progress without Allied intervention. Finding the SS agent took longer than expected, forcing them to camp in the woods, as the Allies concentrated on the cities. 10 days later, they established contact with the agent, and he immediately contacted ODESSA. They were then told to rendezvous at the Swiss border, and were given instructions on how to travel there, and how to avoid Allied patrols. The extraction went on with almost no incident, ODESSA having already bribed numerous officials and people to allow them free passage over remote passes and checkpoints. When they reached the rendezvous point, they were greeted by an ODESSA agent, who informed them that an area in the Swiss mountains had been prepared for their arrival, and there they would stay indefinitely. Their cover would be that of displaced Swiss families who were stuck in Austria during the war, and several senior Swiss government officials sympathetic to the Nazi had already been bribed to maintain secrecy. The Aryans and the LSSAH moved into their new homes, where they would stay for the next 2 decades.

There, the Aryans lived a peaceful life, and gave birth to a new generation of Aryans. They soon began noticing, however, that their children were exhibiting abilities beyond human capabilities. They were running faster, stronger, and showed intelligence beyond their age. And with these new abilities, came new ambitions; they now desired to leave the village and see the outside world. The LSSAH opposed this, having been watching their growth with suspicion, and threatened to kill any of them who refused to comply. The Aryans complied initially, in fear of the methods employed by the SS in the past. Distrust started building, the LSSAH suspected the Aryans of plotting to overthrow them, using their new-found abilities to their advantage. Their treatment of the Aryans steadily grew worse. The breaking point came when the LSSAH arrested an Aryan youth, under suspicion that he planned to sneak out of the village. This infuriated the Aryans, who were not informed about the incident till later on. They approached the LSSAH, and demanded the release of the youth, which was flatly refused. Further demands saw 5 Aryans get arrested, under charges of conspiracy. Infuriated, the Aryans formulated a plan to release their brethren, and to eliminate the LSSAH. Their abilities gave them an immense advantage, and the plan went off without a hitch. By the end of the night, all the members of the LSSAH had been murdered.

Now free to roam, many of the younger Aryans decided to move out of the village, the elderly choosing to stay behind. Before they left, however, they all agreed on one condition; they were to keep their heritage and the full extent of their abilities a secret. Should the world find out about who they actually were, they would all most definitely be arrested, or worse.

Years passed, and out in the world, the Aryans flourished. Through wise and conspicous use of the abilities, they quickly advanced through any field they chose. By the end of the 20th century, Aryans consisted of almost a quarter of the world's top scientists, atheletes, businessmen, politicians e.t.c.

The start of the 21st century was ominous at best. Several unstable countries were engulfed in full blown civil war, and tensions across the Middle East and Asia were growing. The oil problem was looming on the horizon, and the economy starting showing signs of a decline after years of rapid growth. Global warming was also taking it's toll, yet no one was paying any attention to it, must to the benign of environmental activists. All these events took key precedence during a secret Aryan dialogue, attended by almost all Aryans, with the purpose of discussing their role in the century to come. After much discussion, they realized that all of them shared a common belief; humans were unable to rule themselves, and required a strong leader to keep them in line. They saw themselves as that leader, and thus gave themselve a new goal, to hold all key positions in the global scene, and then manipulate humanity, for their own good.

However, an unforseen factor would render those goals invalid. Inquisition broke out among the general populace, highly contagious and lethal, no cure or vaccine existed for it. Although measures for pandemic control were active and rapidly put in place, the virus proved too contagious to effectively control. Everyday, new reports of outbreaks came, and quarantine efforts proved futile to control the spread. It is also believed that terrorists actively promoted the spread of the virus, with attempts such as leaking it into water supplies and food stores, or even by smuggling active carriers into virus-free areas. Even the mighty Aryans were susceptible to Inquisition. Within a year, every continent on Earth had outbreaks of Inquistition occuring.

The outbreak also eventually caused World War 3, and soon the entire world was engulfed in the flames of war. The Aryans then realized that they had implemented their plans too late, the world had spiralled out of control before they were able to stop it. Rumours had also spread among their numbers, that a rogue Aryan scientist had been responsible for the development of Inquisition. A team was organized to locate his secret laboratory, which was found hidden in the wilderness of South Africa. Inside, they found his corpse, apparently killed by his own virus. The laboratory had been ransacked, all research documents, equipment and samples had been removed. However, their persistence eventually led them to find a hard disk, damaged, but still operational. Investigation of it contents confirmed what they all suspected; that the virus had been a product of one of their own. Till that point, every Aryan had worked together towards their one goal, utmost belief and trust in one another was mutual. This was the first time one of their kind had worked against his own people for his own goals. Although minor then, this event would in the future cause the split in the Aryan faction that led the the formation of the Echelon.

Convinced that they could no longer help the world in it's current state, the Aryans resolved to hide, surviving for the future when they would lead what remained of humanity. They also decided to rename themselves. Being Aryan had always signified purity of descent, but an Aryan was still considered a human. They saw themselves as greater than men, but lesser than god, thus being the median. They adopted 'Midian' as their new title, discarding all relations to what they saw as lesser beings.

The Midians then implemented a plan involving three stages. Firstly, they would all abandon any and all interests in the current world. Next, they would all move into the Eagle's Nest, a fortified castle-like structure, their gathering point deep in the mountains of the United States. Lastly, they would hold out for an indetermined period of time, until when they decided the time was perfect for them to come out and reveal themselves to the world.

The first phase was achieved by using the chaos of the period to mask their disappearances. With war raging around the globe, and Inquisition spreading wildly, the chaos made it easy for them to hide their trails. What proved hardest for the Midians was abandoning the village deep in the Swiss mountains, their origin point of sorts. Many of the elderly Midians resided there, and it caused them deep sadness to have to leave their homes.

Nuclear war began just before the last few of their numbers entered the Eagle's Nest. Situated deep within the mountains, the Eagle's Nest was originally a novelty tourist resort and theme park, owned by a rich Midian businessman. Unknown to the tourists who visited it, the castle was actually heavily fortified, the huge walls being more than just realistic replicas. Beneath the castle existed a subterranean complex, inside which housed everything necessary for a large amount of people to survive for a long period of time. When the Midian businessman offered his castle for their collective use, the Midians knew it was the logical choice. Stockpiles of food, water, and everything else neccesary for survival were brought there, in preparation for what was to come.

During the years of the nuclear winters, the Midians, safe within the walls of their great fortress, Burg Neuhohenzollern, set about organizing themselves to prepare for the struggles ahead. Their first order of business was to establish a structure of Houses, defined by ancient Aryan bloodlines. The first 5 major bloodlines to be established were :

House Friedrich - Descendants are known to be great warriors and soldiers.
House Wilhelm - Descendants are accomplished athletes and sportsmen.
House Ludwig - Descendants are talented psychics.
House Maximillian - Descendants are gifted artisans.
House Ferdinand - Descendants are brilliant scientists.

Each House then elected a leader, which was generally the most senior Midian of the House (Midian society places a high value on seniority), and these 5 Heads of the Houses formed the Midian High Office.

INQ - Factions 01a, PMCs

The Conglomerate protects it's interest through the use of it's PMCs (private military companies). PMCs range from small, independent outfits, to sponsored and well-funded armies. The 5 largest PMCs are:

Avion - A branch of the Avion Motor Company, Avion Solutions prides itself on being a completely mechanized unit. Their doctrine is to strike fast and hard, giving the opposition no time for a second wind.

Cerberus - Of the 5 largest PMCs, Cerberus Inc. is the only one that does not have a major sponsor. It is also the only PMC to have a military organizational and rank structure, due to it's origins of formerly being a United States Marine corps Marine Expeditionary Unit. Cerberus contractors are well known for their efficiency, flexibility and high price tag. They are the only PMC to field the Ground Control Walker.

Titanes - Titanes Corporation is the oldest of the PMCs, having existed since the mid-1900s. They also have the highest employment of all the PMCs. Titanes promotes itself on with it's wealth of experience, having seen a century of major conflicts. They field a versatile force capable of many mission types.

Phalanx - A relative newcomer to the scene, Phalanx Group has grown considerably over the last few years through it's creative advertising and attractive contract packages. Phalanx's major contracts are mostly of the protection role, with some 90% of it's contractors involved in such.

SarTec - A branch of SarTec Industrial Robotics inc. SarTec is the leading PMC in combat walker deployment. Their walkers range from light recon models, to assault models, to large industrial ones. Their contractors are notorious for being arrogant and demanding, but are also known for being skilled and efficient.

Other notable PMCs:

Snake Eyes - The smallest PMC, Snake Eyes considers itself to be an Intelligence and Surveillance firm. Their elite operators are experts in information warfare, their specialties including assassination, reconnaissance, and misinformation.

INQ - Factions 01, The Conglomerate

There exist numerous factions in the post-apocalyptic world of INQ, the following is an introduction to 1 of the main factions.

THE CONGLOMERATE

Wraith Scout Snipers - Concept Illustration

The best way to describe an entity such as the Conglomerate would be 'an alliance of industrial powers in the interests of survival and expansion'. To trace the growth of the Conglomerate, one would have to look back to the pre-war period, when the world was in a state of chaos following the rapid outbreak of the deadly virus, Inquisition.

During those rough years, as the virus ran rampant across the globe, one name became humanity's symbol of hope. TierraHealth, a relative unknown in the field of pharmaceuticals and bio-medicine, became an immediate household name after their announcement of their development of a vaccine for Inquisition. Almost immediately, they found themselves recieving funding of immense proportions, as global support poured in. They used part of those funds to constuct an ultra-modern research and production hub in a rural location within the heartlands of the United States. Originally a farming community, the establishment of TierraHealth's facility led to a massive boom within the region, as companies ranging from bio-technologies, aeroponics, mechanics, to military industries, shifted their centres of operation to be near this symbol of hope. Within a year, the small commune had expanded into a bustling metropolis. The city was named Tierra, after the company which had brough it such wealth.

All this, however, was shadowed by the outbreak of the third World War.

As the destruction of the war, and the nuclear winter that followed, ravaged the world around it, Tierra sat unscathed through it all. As the developmental centre for the cure to Inquisition, China and Russia had aimed to capture the city, securing the vaccine for themselves. Thus the city was spared participation in the war. The city was also held under strict quarantine, brought about by TierraHealth, in a bid to preserve the sanctity of their research. There was an attempt, however, by terrorists to destroy the city with one of the Indian nuclear warheads, but it was shot down by US anti-missle defences. Due to its strategic importance, the city was heavily defended by US forces. As the war intensified, however, these forces were relocated to reinforce frontline units. Thus the defence of the city fell to private contractors, some hired by TierraHealth and the other companies, others being subsidiaries of those companies. The onset of nuclear winter saw Tierra transit from it's reliance on the surrounding farmlands to the production of massive indoor and underground aeroponic facilities. Rapid upgrading works reinforced the heat retention capabilities of Tierra's buildings. As the world collapsed around it, Tierra survived, and prospered.
With no government to lead them, the leadership of Tierra fell into the hands of the rich, influential industrial giants. A high-profile conference was organized to deal with the issue. After a long discussion, it was agreed upon that all the companies in Tierra would ally together as the Conglomerate. The 10 most powerful and influential heads of the companies would serve as the Conglomerate Board members, to be rechosen every 3 years. Their immediate goal would be survival; to ensure their existence in the years to come. And over time, it would shift to expansion, spreading their economic might across the land. Tierra had transformed once again, a bustling metropolis now became the centre seat of a new nation, fuelled by economic growth and military industry.

One of the first tasks of the new Board was to reform their industrial assets for their needs. With survival as their main priority, military industry was top on the list. Arms production was put into full gear, and construction assets were put to work fortifying the city against attack. Instead of relying on a formal army, they structured their forces around the numerous private military contractors in the city. Several were contracted for defence purposes, reinforcing the perimeters, and others would remain on active standby, contracted as necessary when the need arose for their services. And in return for their services, these contractors were given foremost access to the latest weapons in production from the military industry. They also drew a high salary, and were given numerous priviledges not available to the citizenship.

Over time, Tierra grew into a massive military industry. The factories produced weapons for the contractors, who used those weapons to agressively expand, seizing resources and territory for the industry to grow. Supporting all this were the citizenry, working at the factories and farms, handling the administrative duties, fear of the outside world keeping them in line. In 2 years, the Conglomerate held control over a region ten times what they originally had.

INQ - World War 3

The War that never ended
An excerpt from Generations Lost
by Gabriel Waters

The third World War began during the early 21st century as the result of several factors; rising tensions in Asia, terrorism, economic downturn, and the Inquisition outbreak.

Although highly debated, most believe the conflict began with the early morning invasion of Indian forces into Pakistani territory. The Indians accused the Pakistani of spreading the Inquisition virus through it's population via agents, leading to an infection rate of 10%, and growing. The invasion caught the eye of neighboring China, who just 2 years prior had severed diplomatic relations with India over a major incident between both nation's armed forces at their borders. On the pretext of assisting Pakistan, Chinese forces invaded Indian territories, and fierce fighting in the mountains saw major losses on both sides.

Calls for peace went unheeded, and slowly, neighboring countries were drawn into the conflict, forced to choose a side. Britain heeded the call of her old colony, India. Russia went to the aid of her economic ally, China. Other EU nations stood down at first, refusing to enter the war, but Russian involvement soon changed all that. The United States faced a dilemna, with both sides requesting her aid, but ultimatelly decided on neutrality. Recent economic downturn had almost caused them another Great Depression, and entering a war would bankrupt the nation.

Seemingly endless Chinese forces, with Russian backup, made tremendous progress into India, and within a month of conflict, had captured the capital, New Dehli, and Mumbai. A new front opened up in Europe, as unstable East European nations bowed over to the might of the renewed Russian juggernaut. EU forces found their hands full, desperately holding onto their defense of crumbling India, and the Eastern front threat spilling into their lands. The EU made a desperate plea to the United States to reconsider their position. Although he faced stiff opposition from within the government and the population, the President heeded their cries, and sent out the order to dispatch troops to the Eastern front. What was to come would catch them entirely off-guard.

As they massed their troops along the Atlantic in preparation for the war, a massive Chinese and Russian fleet launched a first strike on the United States Pacific fleet. The surprise attack was a decisive victory for the Chinese and Russian fleet, sinking almost the entire US pacific fleet. Unchallenged, Chinese invasion forces landed on US soil to light resistance, as the US rushed to get her troops across the country. US forces managed to halt the Chinese advance in the Nevada Desert, and for a week fierce combat saw little to no ground lost on both sides. An attempt by the Chinese force to flank them was halted at Arizona by the returning Atlantic forces. On the East European front, fighting had also ground to a standstill, as stiff EU resistance held back the fierce Russian assault.

It was surprising that till then, neither side had considered the use of nuclear weapons in the conflict. Some propose that it was due to the anti-missle technology available to both sides at the time, but it is more commonly accepted that it was more of a form of unspoken agreement on both sides. No one wanted to risk a major nuclear war. However, as the war went on, options shrunk, and desperation sank it, and soon it was apparent that all it would take was one major incident to trigger a nuclear exchange. That incident would ultimately arrive in the form of a terrorist attack.

An unknown terrorist group seized and took command of a nuclear weapons facility in India, and launched nuclear strikes on major cities around the world. Some were shot down, but many of them hit their targets. Both sides blamed each other for the nuclear attacks, and they began launching their own weapons against strategic targets.

The use of nuclear weapons triggered sudden changes in the climate, and nuclear winter began setting in. Temperatures dropped worldwide, many froze to death in under-developed nations, and global food crops were ruined. Nations collapsed internally as infrastructure broke down. World War 3 ground to a halt, as Armies stopped receiving supplies, communication broke down, and casualties mounted on both sides from non-fighting conditions. Amidst all this, Inquisition continued to plague the remaining population. Within a period of lesser than a year, Earth's population had shrunk to lesser than 0.5% of what it was a decade ago.

As it stands, there has been no official ending to the war.
